Owner Surrender Policy
Secondhand Snoots is a rescue group whose focus is saving animals from high kill animal control facilities. This does not mean that if you surrender your pet to your local shelter that we will automatically be able to save him/her.
As the owner of a pet, only you can make the right choices for the health, safety, and wellness of the animal whose life you have chosen to be responsible for.
Please consider all options before surrendering your pet to any shelter or animal control facility. Your pet has no idea what you are doing or why. Because your pet is an owner surrender a lot of high-kill facilities will euthanize your pet within a few days, if not immediately.
However, we may be able to work with you to find a new home for your dog if you're willing and able to agree to the following provisions:
- You agree to become the foster home for your pet until we find a home for him - whether it takes two weeks, two months or two years.
- You will provide medical care for your dog bringing them up to Secondhand Snoots Rescue's standards of care, at your expense.
- You will provide us with records of all the veterinary work performed.
- You send us several good photos of your pet (including side views, whole body views, and muzzle from the front and side)
- You will bring your pet to adoption events to aid in finding a new home for him/her.
- You complete an owner surrender form which includes a written description of your pet, his/her likes & dislikes, quirks, his medical status, personality, etc.
- You sign our owner surrender form giving Secondhand Snoots Rescue, NFP full custody of your pet.
- You will sign a foster contract agreeing to become a foster home for your pet until an adoptive home or a new foster home is found.
